In the past week or so, Umamusume: Pretty Derby has taken the world by storm - but if you haven't already been sucked into it, it's difficult to understand exactly why. Umamusume has actually been around for a while: although it just became playable in the US last month, it was originally released as a Japan exclusive way back in 2021. Since then, it's gotten multiple anime and manga animations, a Kentucky Derby sponsorship, and a feature film.
